What is Small Business Saturday?

Since 2010, the Saturday after Thanksgiving has been deemed Small Business Saturday. Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the relatively new shopping holiday started by American Express during the Great Recession glorifies the value of American small business. It caught on quickly and business organizations across the country, even Congress, began touting the benefits of bringing holiday shopping revenue to Mom and Pop shops and local communities.

Why is Small Business Saturday important?

To succeed in small business it takes an abundance of grit, passion and determination. Small business is the backbone of our economy. Fewer small businesses are opening and staying open, especially in 2020’s challenging landscape. In 2019, shoppers spent a record $20 billion on the 10th Annual Small Business Saturday.
