How to Maintain Chalk-Free G-Floor® Sport Cheer & Gymnastics Flooring

In high-performance athletic facilities, chalk is a daily necessity. It improves grip, reduces moisture, and supports peak athletic performance. However, while chalk benefits athletes, it poses challenges for facilities. Left unmanaged, chalk buildup can create a hazy appearance, reduce air quality, and even shorten the life of your investment. With a consistent cleaning routine, facilities can extend the performance and professional look of G-Floor® Sport Cheer and Gymnastics Flooring.

Why Consistent Chalk Maintenance Matters

Chalk is lightweight and airborne, meaning it doesn’t stay localized to equipment. Over time, if chalk isn’t addressed it can settle into seams and fibers, contribute to poor air quality, and accelerate wear on flooring materials.

Removing Chalk from G-Floor Sport

1. Daily Vacuuming
Use a high-suction vacuum (without stiff bristles) to remove loose chalk. Vacuum slowly, in multiple directions, to lift particles embedded deep within the surface.  Establishing this as a daily routine prevents buildup and preserves flooring quality.

2. Targeted Spot Cleaning
High-traffic zones, such as areas near bars and beams, require extra attention. Apply a neutral pH carpet cleaner diluted per manufacturer instructions. Lightly spray the affected area, then blot with a microfiber cloth or soft brush. Avoid over-wetting, as excess moisture can compromise the foam underlay.

3. Scheduled Deep Cleaning
For high-volume gyms, periodic hot water extraction or steam cleaning is recommended. Always use a minimal moisture setting to avoid over-saturation. This step ensures your flooring maintains its professional look and peak functionality, even under heavy use.

4. Residue Removal
Cleaning solutions that leave behind residue can attract dust and chalk faster. Run a second extraction pass with clean water, or mist lightly and blot dry, ensuring no film is left on the surface.

5. Proper Drying Procedures
Excess moisture can damage foam padding and lead to hygiene issues. After cleaning, use fans, dehumidifiers, and proper ventilation to accelerate drying. Always keep athletes off the mat until it is fully dry.

Proactive chalk maintenance delivers measurable benefits by extending the flooring life, enhancing safety, and maintaining a professional appearance. Keep your facility competition ready by committing to consistent cleaning!

For quick reference, here’s your facility checklist:

  • Vacuum daily with strong suction (no stiff bristles) to prevent chalk buildup.
  • Spot clean high-traffic zones with neutral pH carpet cleaner; avoid excess moisture.
  • Schedule periodic deep cleaning with hot water extraction or steam, and ensure thorough drying.
