7 Tips for Upgrading Pontoons with G-Floor® Outdoor & Marine

Traditional marine carpet simply does not hold up. It’s abrasive, difficult to clean, stains easily, and offers little protection against subfloor rot. When your customers are ready to replace worn flooring, G-Floor Outdoor & Marine provides a practical, high-performance alternative that enhances longevity and adds real value to any pontoon.

This is an affordable upgrade that helps protect their investment—and delivers a clean, refreshed look for the summer to come.

Before Installation Begins

G-Floor Outdoor & Marine is available in three styles—Solid, Simplicity, and Premier—allowing flexibility to match the look your customers want. Before installation, ensure the subfloor plywood is structurally sound and properly prepared. All fixed items like seating should be removed, and the surface must be smooth and clean. A solid foundation is essential for best results.

Installation Tips

  1. Plan for Ample Time
Rushing leads to mistakes. Allocate enough time to complete the installation properly without cutting corners. The subfloor will need to be completely dry, allow time to air dry as needed.
  2. Check the Weather
Vinyl expands and contracts with extreme temperature changes. Install when temperatures are between 65°F and 85°F, and conditions are stable.
  3. Choose the Right Adhesive
Select a marine-grade adhesive compatible with sheet vinyl and your customer’s subfloor material. Tools needed include a paint roller, a utility knife for trimming, and a 100lb roller (available for rent at local hardware stores) to ensure strong adhesion.
  4. Allow Material to Relax
Roll out the G-Floor® Outdoor & Marine flooring product and let it sit for at least 24 hours. This helps the vinyl lay flat and allows for a dry-fit trim. Work out any wrinkles from the center outward.
  5. Apply Adhesive with Care
Avoid applying in direct sunlight. Use a paint roller to spread adhesive according to manufacturer instructions.
  6. Use the Hinge Method
Fold the vinyl in half lengthwise to expose half of the subfloor. Apply adhesive to one side, then slowly press the vinyl down from the hinge outward, removing any air bubbles as you go. Work out any wrinkles from the center outward.  Once in place, roll thoroughly with the 100lb roller.
  7. Trim for Precision
After installation, make a final trim using multiple shallow cuts for clean, accurate edges.

Adding G-Floor Outdoor & Marine flooring is a smart way to enhance the look, comfort, and longevity of your customers’ pontoons. It’s a straightforward upgrade that delivers real performance—and helps make every boat a standout on the water.
